Hello, I’m Alex Carling, a psychotherapist and clinical supervisor in private practice.
In a world with higher demand and fewer resources, as a group we meet once a month for 4 hours. We combine and collaborate to develop skills, knowledge and personal capacity to be in relationship with your clients.
Since starting private practice in 2012, I have followed the lead of my clients and therefore developed skills relevant to their needs - it is these that I share with you in our group. Here’s what you can expect:
Much of my theory is underpinned by my first training in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy (Level 7), but this group is not just for TA practitioners. We will explore the theories you use to understand the challenges of your clients and work from there.
I am a certified Brainspotting practitioner with a belief in our client’s capacity to have an intuitive sense of their own healing. I will support you to develop an understanding of how you can be curious about this, and how you can learn from what your client’s system is communicating with you.
I am also a certified Adoption Therapist and can supervise other adoption therapists in this area
I have completed Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy Level 1 and use this, along with the training for the adoption certificate and my 15 years experience of working with women and children who have experienced domestic abuse, to work in an attachment focused way.
I work to support the neurobiological needs of my clients, and as such, bring mindfulness into my work more often than not. Mindfulness will be incorporated into the group, within your client work and as a way for us to connect and ground into the group.
In October 2023, I begin Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Level 1 and I look forward to this being a big influence on my supervisory practice too.
I have a high proportion of neurodivergent clients, I work with a neurodivergent supervisor and have invested in the area of neurodiversity within my CPD. My intention is to start a diploma in neurodiversity in 2024.

What other therapists/counsellors have said about past groups:
"...it's like a Kaleidoscope" - one therapist said this with reference to the experience of the diverse perspectives, minds and bodies that contributed to her practise.
"it's surprised me how safe I felt". When we started our group, we took some time to honour the newness and uncertainty, our past experiences of learning and of groups, so we all knew what was needed from us, for each group member. All members said they felt safe to be vulnerable in the group and I believe it was thanks to this, that the group was so effective.
"Your supervision has been beneficial for both my clients and my self" - due to the safety experienced, therapists were able to bring their authentic and vulnerable self to supervision, this makes supervision so expansive.
"...neurodivergence, mindfulness and compassion in abundance!" This therapist shared with me what they were sharing with their training group, about our supervision, the bits they found particularly helpful.
